Can I view the streaming media using a dial-up connection?
No, dial-up internet connections are not fast enough to deliver streaming video.
I cannot view the streaming media.
Please make sure that your computer meets the minimum requirements for taking part
in the streaming media on this site. Are you connected to the internet? Is your
internet connection fast enough to view streaming media? If you are trying to view
the streaming media from work there is a strong possibility that your corporate
firewall is restricting your access to streaming media. Please contact your system
administrator for more information. If you are running a local firewall on your
home system you may want to try temporarily disabling it and reconnecting to the
stream. If that corrects the problem, please contact your firewall software provider
for information on how to allow Windows Media streaming through your firewall.
The stream cuts out and/or is constantly buffering.
This is most likely caused by congestion on your network. Please disable any other
applications which might be monopolizing your bandwidth and try to connect to the
stream again. On-line games and peer-to-peer file sharing applications are examples
of applications which consume significant amounts of bandwidth.
I cannot hear any audio.
If you cannot hear any sound yet there is video on your screen the audio is present
yet is most likely being muted or attenuated by your computer or its speakers. Please
check your computer’s volume settings and verify that your speakers are on and set
to an acceptable volume level.
I am using Firefox on the PC however I still cannot view the streaming media.
Please be sure that you have downloaded and installed the appropriate Windows Media
Player Firefox Plugin. The latest version can be downloaded
here.
Does this streaming media service support Linux and Mac users?
Yes this service does support Linux and Mac users although, depending on your setup,
with the possible loss of some functionality. If you are using a Mac please be sure
you’ve downloaded the latest version Windows Media Player and are using Safari as
your browser. Linux users please download MPlayer and the Mozilla MPlayer plugin.
What is a firewall and why does it matter if I am behind one?
Some firewalls are set to detect streaming media and disable it from entering the
network. If you are trying to view streaming media at work and you are unable to
there is a good chance your company’s employing a firewall. Please contact your
system administrator for more info.
If you are experiencing difficulty at home and suspect that your computer’s firewall
is to blame, you may want to temporarily disable it and try to connect to the stream.
If that corrects the problem, please contact your firewall software provider for
information on how to allow Windows Media streaming through your firewall.
Windows Media is asking for a username and password to connect to the stream.
There is no username or password required to view the streaming media on this site.
The authentication request is most likely coming from a proxy server on your corporate
network. Please contact your network administrator for assistance in configuring
your computer to view streaming media.
Whenever I try to download media files from your site they are opened by
Windows Media Player and not saved to my hard disk.
Your computer may be configured to automatically open media files with Windows Media
Player. To bypass this please be sure that you are, on a Windows system, right-clicking
on the link and selecting “Save Target As.” On a Mac system hold down the command
key while clicking on the link and select the appropriate option.
